dfhdjlfhdjafhdjfhdjalk
Both works are flashbacks of something that happened in their childhood. The narrator of “Araby” talks about how he and his friend experienced things and how he felt about his friend’s sister. The narrator of “Cofer’s” explained how she seen her father upon his return home from the Navy. The sensory details of both of the works are very vivid. In “Cofer’s” the narrator explains how she sees her father with a “halo on his head”. She also explains how he stands strong and the definition of his uniform. In “Araby”, he talks about the house on his street like he lived in it all of his life. Also he talks about his infatuation with his friend’s sister.
Journal Prompt 2. Conflict and conflict resolution are narration qualities. Conflicts can be man vs. man, man vs. nature, and man vs. self. Describe one example from Mayblum's "The Price We Pay" that exemplifies one of the aforementioned areas of conflict. 1 para.
The conflict in “The Price We Pay” would be man vs. man. The one reason that stands out to me is the planes crashing into the buildings. The terrorist, whom ever that may be, intentionally tried to bring the people of the United States down, by infiltrating our people with insecurities about their protection from them. That incident also has proven to the United States people that we are able to be hurt as a whole! The conflict has also awake Americans from their slumber to make them realize that they can become one of the many that are touched. But his resolution to this was to leave us alone we will kill ourselves, I agree with that!
Journal Prompt 3. Use this journal to build your introductory paragraph for Narrative Paper Assignment 1. Remember your introductory paragraph must consist of a clear thesis statement and clear supporting advanced organizers. 1 para.

Journal Prompt 4. Find an advertising slogan and write a descriptive paragraph about what an ad for that slogan should contain: discuss target audience, sensory details, and purpose. 1 para
"Be All That You Can Be", says a lot to everyone. An ad for this slogan should have students learning in class, pilot flying a plane, graduating students from school, going up in rank, being and having a family, and people being recruited. These pictures and actions need to be taken in their natural environments. The target audience should be anyone able and eligible to protect our freedom. The ad should show families being happy, crying, hugging, and kissing, students being attentive, person being promoted in rank. The purpose should be to show people that the army helps you become all that you can be while protecting the United States.
Journal Prompt 5. Read this article about bad advertisement. Discuss one advertisement you've seen or heard that you believe is poor advertisement--describe the ad so that a person reading your discription could visualize the ad without seeing it. Then discuss why you believe the ad is bad. 2 para
The most recent bad advertisement I have seen was in a magazine. This advertisement showed a woman dressed in the 1950's attire dusting a white lamp shade. The room had wood floors, a dark brown leather chair. In the back ground of the room, there was the kitchen with all of its stainless steal applicances. In the middle of the kitchen was a very large island for the stove and other things. This advertisement was for wooden floors. There were no words except for the name of the company that installs wooden floors. This advertisement showed nothing about the durability, different types of wood available.
Journal Prompt 6. Search the internet or a magazing to find a "good" advertisement. Describe the ad so that a reader may visualize it without seeing the ad. Discuss why you believe the advertisement is good. 2 para
The most recent good advertisement I seen was in Country Living magazine. In the advertisement. There is a dark blue recliner that is reclined. There is a woman lying on it like she is asleep. In the foreground there is a picture of what and how many types of cushions are inside the chair. Below that it shows the many options it may come with just as back and seat massaging, seat warmers, and various ways it can recline. There was even a price ranger advertised at the bottom of the page. This items made me want to go buy a recliner.
Journal Prompt 7. What social behaviors are teens demonstrating as tweens? What examples does the writer give? 1 para
At a very young age both boys and girls start to admire different things. Celebrities are one of the things these tweens start to acknowledge. They are also starting to wear make up and dress as if they are older and more sophisticated. Tweens also start to exhibit teen attitudes and behavior. They seem to be more concerned with their looks and wearing make up. Some of those are just harmless but they tend to start committing crimes and doing drugs, drinking alcohol, and form eating disorders. These still young people often get involved in sex which results with an unplanned pregnancy at a very young age.
Journal Prompt 8. In Jackson's "The Lottery," one social behavior that the town engages in is group think, which can be loosely defined as individuals in a group refusing to go against the group. What other examples (at least 2) can you think of where individuals engage in group think in a dangerous manner? 1 para
Gangs tend to be in a ‘group think’ mode. When they commit crimes they feel as if they have the power and support of the group or gang. Also, they feel that if they do a certain crime then these people will respect them more. The second is police officers committing crimes and then the police force or some of them cover it up. Some police officers have committed crimes and simply got away with it because of some people on the force helping cover it up or denying that anything has every happened.
Journal Prompt 9. Discuss one poem and one short story similarity concerning characters, plots, settings, conflicts, or themes. 2 paragraphs
In "How Far She Went" and "A Rose for Emily" there is a conflict that has exposed itself in each story. The conflict was death of the dog and her sweet heart. Emily committed murder of her sweet heart and the grandmother murdered the dog to save her's and her granddaughter's life. Both of these stories are very similiar because they both committ murder. Neither the grandmother nor Emily could part with the deceased very well.
Emily and the grandmother are very similiar due to the fact that they both had to kill someone for their benefit. Such as Emily believed that it was to her benefit to kill Homer because he might have left her and sent her back to being the poor old pathetic Emily, whereas the grandmother still mourns the death of her daughter by visiting her gravesite and now mourns the death of her pet dog. Both Emily and the grandmother have to committ murder to survive or at least they believe they must.
Journal Prompt 10. In Walker's Beauty, discuss the issues that caused Walker to lose her self-esteem. 2 paragraphs
In this story, Walker lost her self-esteem first by being shot by a bb gun in the eye by one of her many brothers. Walker soon develops a “glob” over her eye after seeing the doctor. The doctor tells her and her parents that eyes are sympathetic and that if one goes blind the other eye will go blind also. Since, she has the white haze over her eye she does not look up for a very long time because she feels that people are looking at her eye and not her. Before the shooting, she was considered very cute, pretty, and almost sassy.
Also, the Walker family moves to a different county. Therefore, Alice Walker has to start a new school. In this school, the kids taunt and tease her about her eye. One boy even calls her a very profane name, which in return Walker beats him up. But in the new school, the kids are mean and unruly. She does not make any friends because she is still not lifting her head. She ridicules and batters her eye at night in front of the mirror. Walker’s parents send her to live with her grandparents. There she already knows the people in school and they do not taunt her.
