Cofer's "My Father in the Navy" and Joyce's short story "Araby" are autobiographical or narrative in nature. Review the chapter in the Longman concerning the rhetorical mode Narration (pgs. 109-116). In the story "Araby" the narrator uses first person flashbacks to the time when he was a child. the narrator used sensory details to describe as a child how he really likes this girl and wanted to get to the fair to see her in time but arrived too late. In "My Father in the Navy" the narrator also tells the story in first person and flashes back to the time when he was a child. He uses sensory details to describe how he really wanted his dad to come back home.
Journal Prompt 2. Conflict and conflict resolution are narration qualities. Conflicts can be man vs. man, man vs. nature, and man vs. self. Describe one example from Mayblum's "The Price We Pay" that exemplifies one of the aforementioned areas of conflict. 1 para.
In "The Price We Pay", it exemplifies man vs.man and man vs. self. I say man vs. man because he has conflict with what another man has done and has to survive it. He does not allow the terrorist to make him give up hope on surviving. I also say man vs. self because he has to pull himself together to get out of the building alive. Another reason why i say man vs. self is because he blames himself for rushing the rescuers to his friends.

To the general public, i am writing to you to inform you on the dangers of smoking cigarettes. I think it is a dangerous for you to smoke because it is severely dangerous to your health and others. Another reason why is because it is an expensive habit. Lastly, the smell of cigarette smoke is almost impossible to get out of the home, clothing, and cars.
