Cofer's "My Father in the Navy" and Joyce's short story "Araby" are autobiographical or narrative in nature. Review the chapter in the Longman concerning the rhetorical mode Narration (pgs. 109-116). Discuss two narration qualities you see in the poem and the short story collectively. 1 para.
Both of these stories were in first person. Also, they used flashbacks and sensory details. In araby the narrator flashes back to his childhood. In my father in the navy, the narrator also flashes back to his childhood.
Journal Prompt 2. Conflict and conflict resolution are narration qualities. Conflicts can be man vs. man, man vs. nature, and man vs. self. Describe one example from Mayblum's "The Price We Pay" that exemplifies one of the aforementioned areas of conflict. 1 para.
I think that the conflict is man vs. self. because the man is fighting to find a way out of the building. When his friend dont want to go with the group but asks for help. he felt he was rushing them and that they might have survived.

Remember your introductory paragraph must consist of a clear thesis statement and clear supporting advanced organizers. 1 para. This is written in honor of Mrs. Beatrice Armstrong, one of my hospice patients that I will never forget, as she impacted my life with her stories and her memories. As a hospice nurse, I am given the blessing of meeting many different types of people. One of the patient’s that touched me the most was Mrs. Armstrong. She asked me to write a piece of her memoir, so that her memories could be shared with her family, even after her passing. I visited Mrs. Armstrong 3 times per week for a little over 6 months. When she left us, I felt like I had known her all of my life. This is because of the never ending slew of memories that she had and she felt compelled to share as many as she could with me.
Journal Prompt 4. Find an advertising slogan and write a descriptive paragraph about what an ad for that slogan should contain: discuss target audience, sensory details, and purpose. 1 para
The advertisement is to inform you that you should buy the Clearasil pimple blocking pen. The advertisement would be for teenagers and adults. The page is somewhat colorful but could use more to make it look more interesting. The advertisement could also have some prices and a little more about the product so people know what they are buying. Journal Prompt 5. Read this article about bad advertisement. Discuss one advertisement you've seen or heard that you believe is poor advertisement--describe the ad so that a person reading your discription could visualize the ad without seeing it. Then discuss why you believe the ad is bad. 2 para
I seen an ad one time and i was not impressed by it. There were no colors other than dull colors like black and white. It had a woman and a man standing on the page in front of the product and at first i didnt know what the product was. However, it did explain a little at the bottom of the ad. I think they could have added more color and maybe even get a comercial on t.v. Alltogether i didnt like the ad and it was very hard for me to understand.

This ad that i found is very bright and colorful. It has a scrath and sniff and you use the product on certain surfaces. This ad would probably be for adult women and maybe some men. The ad had a lot of details and it even ahd a website you could go to. To sum it all up, the one page ad was great and it helped me understand what it was before i bought it.

Teens are in different social groups. Many teens wont talk to another if they dont dress or act the same. There are too many clicks between teenagers and i think this should not be like this.
Journal Prompt 8. In Jackson's "The Lottery," one social behavior that the town engages in is group think, which can be loosely defined as individuals in a group refusing to go against the group. What other examples (at least 2) can you think of where individuals engage in group think in a dangerous manner? 1 para
