Journal Prompt 2. Conflict and conflict resolution are narration qualities. Conflicts can be man vs. man, man vs. nature, and man vs. self. Describe one example from Mayblum's "The Price We Pay" that exemplifies one of the aforementioned areas of conflict. 1 para.
Adam Mayblum's "The Price We Pay" provides an excellent example of man vs. nature conflict. Adam's office building was located on the 87th floor of The Twin Towers in New York City. On September 11th the building was struck by a plane, causing suffocating smoke to enter his office. Adam tore his wet shirt and tied it around his face to use as a smoke filter. Thick smoke from fire causes many devastating effects to the body's respiratory and cardiovascular systems. Adam's health vs. the smoke illustrates man vs. nature conflict.

Silently, I cursed myself for getting caught up in conversation after work. She smiled and gave me a reassuring kiss on the cheek. “You’re forgiven, just don’t let it happen again,” she whispered in my ear.I didn’t deserve her, I never did.

The advertisement I chose to write about has a black and white photograph in the background and on top of that, in color, is a colored picture of the product it's advertising and a small summarization. The background is a photograph of a young boy hugging his mother's legs. The little boy is smiling and looks very happy and grateful. On top of that is a picture of Nabisco's individually wrapped cookies. The summarization beside it states, "Makes kids happy. Makes moms happy. Everybody wins."

Journal Prompt 6. Search the internet or a magazing to find a "good" advertisement. Describe the ad so that a reader may visualize it without seeing the ad. Discuss why you believe the advertisement is good. 2 para
A good advertisement is clearly demonstrated in life cereal ads. The ad pictures a young boy sitting on a counter eating the cereal out of the box. What makes the ad so interesting is that there is a platter of cookies right beside him. Obviously any other child in the same situation would have chosen the cookies to the healthy life cereal. This advertisement is not only humorous and eye-catching, it fulfills it's mission of making the ad effective. I would say the target audience for this advertisement would be mothers with younger children. The color schemes fit the mood of the ad and I wouldn't change anything.
