While reading Cofer's "My Father in the Navy" and Joyce's "Araby", I noticed some narrative qualities. Two of these qualities were sensory details and flashback-past experiences. Both "My Father in the Navy" and "Araby" are told as flashbacks or childhood memories. In "My Father in the Navy", Cofer talks about waiting with her family for her father to return from sea. In "Araby", Joyce talks about a boyhood crush. They both use many sensory details. Some examples of sensory details from "My father in the Navy" are: "Stiff and immaculate"(213) and "Neon sign of a quasar"(213). Some sensory details from "Araby" are: "The air was pitilessly raw" and " Our shouts echoed in the silent street".

One conflict that is evident in "The Price We Pay" is man vs. nature. An example of this is when they had to find their way though the smoke to get out. It was describes as "thick and white"(132) and it "did not smell like I imagined smoke should smell"(132). The smoke was so thick that they "missed the staircase and had to double back".

One reason I want to discourage you from smoking is because quitting smoking is very difficult; I battled with quitting for years. Another reason to discourage you from smoking is because it can cause serious illnesses and diseases. Finally, I want to discourage you from smoking because it is a very expensive and time-consuming habit.

The slogan "With a name like Smuckers it has to be good", would want to include many descriptive details in an ad. It would need to appeal to mothers and include many sensory details that appeal to how good it tastes. The purpose of its ad would be to sell the product. It should also contain an picture of the product and perhaps a family eating the product. It should also probably contain something that says how inexpensive it is.

One advertisement that I thought was bad waswas for an Infiniti Ex. It had a bright orange background and there is a top-view picture of the car on the left. There is curvy writing around the car and a description of the car's safety rating and awards at the bottom left of the page. On the bottom right of the page is the emblem or logo of Nissian and Infiniti Ex. Most of the right side of the ad is blank.
This ad is not very effective. It doesn't have a good picture of the car, how much the car costs, or how many miles per gallon the car has. If i were shopping for a new car I would need to know all of these things and more. It also has a completely blank space on the right side of the ad. They could have put a side view picture of the car there.

This advertisements purpose is to sell the Texturize Collection by Pantene Pro-V. The background is a neutral tan color and in the middle of the ad there is a young model with long curly brown hair. She has a long string of pearls wrapped around her neck several times and her hand once. Only her upper body is shown and it takes up all but a small portion of the page. She has stunning blue eyes that contrast perfectly with her brown hair and bright white teeth that are the same shade of white as the pearls. At the bottom of the ad is a strip of white that contains a picture of the Collection and says all day lift a hold in all caps on the left and has the logo of Pantene Pro-V on the right. Above the picture of the product there is text that reads mess things up on purpose.
I believe that this is good advertisement because it makes me want to buy the products. The models hair looks great and she looks very happy with the results she got with the products. It is Pantene so i know that I can get it at Walmart. This ad does its job perfectly.

Tweens are exhibiting many social behaviors known to teens. They dress more sophisticated than they did a few years ago. They describe themselves as "flirtatious, sexy, trendy, athletic, and cool." Some have even turned to crime to show how grown up they are. Most tweens have started having sex. According to the text, "One in five middle-school kids is sexually active. Also, many tweens have started experimenting with drugs and alcohol.
Journal Prompt 8. In Jackson's "The Lottery," one social behavior that the town engages in is group think, which can be loosely defined as individuals in a group refusing to go against the group. What other examples (at least 2) can you think of where individuals engage in group think in a dangerous manner? 1 para
Tweens, for example, demonstrate dangerous group think. Such as experimenting with drugs, alcohol, and sex. Also, racists demonstrate dangerous group think. They pass along their prejudices to their children and they in turn pass it along to their children. Its a never ending cycle.

Both “Young Goodman Brown” and “The Lottery” are stories set in the past. The settings were the same in that they were both towns with old traditions.Both the Young Goodman Brown and Mrs. Hutchinson in the story “The Lottery” are rushing to get to an event that happens every year. I would compare Young Goodman Brown and Mrs. Hutchinson in “The Lottery” because they both rush to get their respective events; however, they did not really want to be there. In the end, they were both disappointed with the results of their events.
