Cofer's "My Father in the Navy" and Joyce's short story "Araby" are autobiographical or narrative in nature. Review the chapter in the Longman concerning the rhetorical mode Narration (pgs. 109-116). Discuss two narration qualities you see in the poem and the short story collectively. 1 para.
I felt "Araby" and "My Father in the Navy" both had first person point of view and very vivid sensory details. Also both stories used flashback. In "Araby" the narrator flashed back to his childhood and made you feel like you were there. The story "My Father in the Navy" the narrator described how much they missed their dad and how she her mom and borther waited for him to come home.The sensory details in "Araby" are how much he cares for Mangan's sister.
Journal Prompt 2. Conflict and conflict resolution are narration qualities. Conflicts can be man vs. man, man vs. nature, and man vs. self. Describe one example from Mayblum's "The Price We Pay" that exemplifies one of the aforementioned areas of conflict. 1 para. I think the conflict is Man vs. Man in the story "The Price We Pay". I belive it is the American people in the twin towers vs. the Hijackers that took the planes. Mayblum was trying to get out alive and when the hijackers crasked into the building they wanted him dead. Therefore i feel like the conflict is man vs. man

As a child, I spent a lot of time with my father at his paint and body shop. I would watch him as he would write estimates, talk to the customers, and deal with his employees. This experience instilled me to run and own my own business one-day. While I watched him run his business, he taught me how to always be nice and polite to the customers, how to treat employees with respect but get them to do what needs to be done, and how to be a good decision maker. All these qualities help me as a business manager.

Find an advertising slogan and write a descriptive paragraph about what an ad for that slogan should contain: discuss target audience, sensory details, and purpose. 1 para An advertisng slogan would be "Wall's Paint and Body, number one in customer service for 24 years." The target audience is anybody that drvies a car and has ever had a wreck. Also it is targeted to anybody that gets their car fixed other than Walls to get customer to swap.The sensory details is that Wall's has been voted number one in customer service for 24 years.

Discuss one advertisement you've seen or heard that you believe is poor advertisement--describe the ad so that a person reading your discription could visualize the ad without seeing it. Then discuss why you believe the ad is bad. 2 para Ive seen an advertisment that said it was a great early gift for hunters. It just had one picture of a box in the middle of the page. The rest of the page is yellow. It has bold writing at the top with really small writing at the bottom.
I think this is bad advertisment becasue it doesnt have any pictures of the shotgun shells. The advertisment doesnt tell you how much they are. The picture could have been bigger and the background color of the page could of been a different color thant yellow. Also make the small print at the bottom bigger.

Discuss why you believe the advertisement is good. 2 para The ad has abunch of different pictures of guys with animals on it. It has a globe on it showing all the different parts of the world. It has alot of color and alot of big animals. It has big bold letters and a number to contact them.
I think this is a good advertisment because it makes you want to go hunt where the people hunted. They all have big trophy animals. The ad has alot of pictures it shows where all you can go hunt. It has a phone number and a website where you can contact them. I think its a very good ad. Journal Prompt 7. What social behaviors are teens demonstrating as tweens? What examples does the writer give? 1 para Tweens are showing a lot of the same social behaviors as teenagers. They dress older than they really are. The tweens went from wearing power rangers shirts to wearing polos and khakis. Some tweens even try to act grown up by par taking in criminal activity. Also the tweens try hang out with people older than them so it makes them feel older. One example the author gives is middle school kids becoming sexually active.
Journal Prompt 8. In Jackson's "The Lottery," one social behavior that the town engages in is group think, which can be loosely defined as individuals in a group refusing to go against the group. What other examples (at least 2) can you think of where individuals engage in group think in a dangerous manner? 1 para One example is where the individuals showgroup think could turn dangerous is where they start drinking and driving. the individuals that were drinking and driving is not only in dangering them selves but other drivers and walkers. Another example is when people run from the cops. When they run from the cops it could turn very dangerous. It is putting the cops lives in danger, they are putting their own lives in danger, not to mention other drivers.
