Review the chapter in the Longman concerning the rhetorical mode Narration (pgs. 109-116). Discuss two narration qualities you see in the poem and the short story collectively. 1 para.

In both of the short stories the tone is first person . In the short story of "Araby" it makes you feel like your there, with all of the details about him just looking out the window at the one girl stole his heart. The short story of "My Father in the Navy" allows you to to image that your there too waiting for you father to come around the corner with his white halo on his head. They both have so many sensory details.

Journal Prompt 2. Conflict and conflict resolution are narration qualities. Conflicts can be man vs. man, man vs. nature, and man vs. self. Describe one example from Mayblum's "The Price We Pay" that exemplifies one of the aforementioned areas of conflict. 1 para.

In "The Price We Pay" I see a man vs. man conflict. The people in the twin tower were being attacked by terrorist who hijacked the planes. Not knowing at the time what was going until after the made the way through the entire floor and each one they had to deal with all kinds fires, ceiling falling down, and trying to save other while trying to save yourself.
Journal Prompt 3. Use this journal to build your introductory paragraph for Narrative Paper Assignment 1. Remember your introductory paragraph must consist of a clear thesis statement and clear supporting advanced organizers. 1 para.

Only words can explain why it’s so hard to write you knowing that this is going to be the last thing you hear from me. I know it’s going to be hard leaving you behind and not knowing if you’re going to be alright without me be there to confront you when you need to be held in my arms. I just want you to remember that no matter what I love you and that I want you to know that I have several memories that I will always cherish. I remember all those special days when you took me to the park and held me so close and so tight that I never wanted to go home. You are so special and the day we got married was amazing seeing the waves of the ocean sweep across the sand while walking down the ale to the man of my dreams. And when we fought out that we were having a baby girl it was the best thing that happened to us. Standing there thinking to myself could this be I’m having a baby or is this really a dream. These are just some of our special memories that I will always cherish close to my heart.

Journal Prompt 4. Find an advertising slogan and write a descriptive paragraph about what an ad for that slogan should contain: discuss target audience, sensory details, and purpose. 1 para

The ad for Nike says, "Just do it"and it's target is the youth and anybody who likes to run.The ad should show people from different counties running in all types of weather to show thhat the shoes can substain any type of weather conditions. Maybe for motivational purposes the ad should show someone who has struggled to lose weight and have the word just do it over their head .The purpose of the ad is to motivate people to just do it make a change get active .

Journal Prompt 5. Read this article about bad advertisement. Discuss one advertisement you've seen or heard that you believe is poor advertisement--describe the ad so that a person reading your discription could visualize the ad without seeing it. Then discuss why you believe the ad is bad. 2 para

The advertisement was in a bold orange .It had an older lady standing out of the crowd in front of what seemed to be an art class. At the top of the page in bold blue letters it had FDA improved. It also has tons of writing about the side effects and what the product treats. It also tells you in the middle of the page what the name of the medicine is in bold letters too.It tells you in black bold letters that it's not for every one and that you should talk to you doctor before taking the medicine.
I think is a bad advertisement because it has no senory details and has so much written that no one would every read and that just a trun off for me.There really isn't any effectiveness due to not really being able to taste the medicine and the fact that it is in the magazine which no one really reads ads in that much anymore.I wouldn't take that medicine because of all of the side effects it list on the front and back of the page.I think the purpose of the advertisement was good but the way they got their point across was a failure maybe next time they can use the internet instead.

Journal Prompt 6. Search the internet or a magazing to find a "good" advertisement. Describe the ad so that a reader may visualize it without seeing the ad. Discuss why you believe the advertisement is good. 2 para

The advertisement was about adoption .At the top of the page it said,” We Never Knew How Proud We Could be … until we adopted Keisha. The proud and the adopted part of the quote were in the color purple. It showed a gay couple with their daughter after her graduation hugging and with big smiles on their faces. The background was green and the girls graduation cap and grown was a gold color which made her stand out. At the bottom of the ad it had a one eight hundred number to call about information.
I think the advertisement was amazing. It made you feel like you were there with hugging and kiss each other saying you proud of you loves one. You can just see the joy on their faces that make you feel all of joy to be able to adopt even though your gay but just the fact that they were there to help raise her a shape her into the women she became. The way the daughter look just took you breath away because she was happy to have them in her live. A lot of sensory details and the effectiveness were great.

Journal Prompt 7. What social behaviors are teens demonstrating as tweens? What examples does the writer give? 1 para

Teens wearing tons of makeup and short shirts while going out hanging with their friends. Talking about sex with their friends not even knowing what they're getting themselves into. Some of their social behaviors are being rude, thinking they can do anything and everything without consent, and just going up way to fast by wearing make-up and really short dresses and shirts. The writer gives examples of tweens was girl puting on tons of make-up at school without their parents evening knowing. Another example was a middle schooler getting pregnant. One more example was an child bring an gun to school and killing several innocent people.

Journal Prompt 8. In Jackson's "The Lottery," one social behavior that the town engages in is group think, which can be loosely defined as individuals in a group refusing to go against the group. What other examples (at least 2) can you think of where individuals engage in group think in a dangerous manner? 1 para

I think that schools are invovled in group think because they both think their better then each other and when you have football and basketball games the students fight each other some even bring weapons just because they are supporting their school.Another group would be firefighters because everyday they risk their lives to save others and they do it without a fear inside them. I belive these is an good example because they all think a like ,have the same creed of honor ,and enjoy their jobs .
